car paint design inspiration

the mercedes below was painted by a passer by, Daniel Young, who stopped in marathon for a short time and ended up staying a bit longer to finish the car project...of which i fell madly in love with. driving a car that is undeniably a head turner whether you think it's genius or an abomination, will warrant conversations and facial expressions. it's not the attention i like, but the outside-of-the-box aspect that creates the crossing of paths with people. normal is boring and unispiring and i personally and certainly wouldn't stop someone on the road to talk about their beat up kind of average looking rusty 80s mercedes. being in the vehicle market myself, and having tendencies toward older models,  Daniel and i have a tentative save-the-date for his project next winter. lately he's been inspired by cabbage roses and wants to do a HUGE abstract pattern.

immediately i thought of those sweet little vintage japanese coffee cups that i love so much...

...Marimekko patterns: the Finnish textile design and clothing company from the 1950s...

...and anything with ginormous red poppies.

i can't wait to see how Daniel merges these ideas for my vehicular.
