a little about little old bisbee

i arrived in bisbee on my birthday...spent it alone...again...but gave me the reason to stay in town and get busy.
i started working at the high desert market and cafe less that three days later, got in good with the ladies at the silver king hotel...

an old brothel with sinks in the rooms, bathroom down the hall, a wood stove for heat on the third floor, copper piping around the claw foot tubs, and not a whole lot of other newly renovated features. a part of the famous Gulch burro...famous for it's "lively" hood, even still today...only recently has cleaned up it's act. here's my room.

paint by number in my room...not joking...and the white spaces aren't even painted white so the numbers show

room 4 bar...guinness book of world records for tiniest bar in arizona...i work here too

i sit on the bed looking at the water stains on the ceiling wondering who has looked at this same ceiling, what has happened between these walls, all complete with ghosts...screaming asian ladies banging on the doors of 1 and 2...leaving piles of rice in front of the doors of residents who are going through bad times in the their lives, a symbol of prosperity and reassurance...and supposedly there are ghost cats too.

the slogan for bisbee is "keep bisbee bisaar"...it's not that bizarre, but rather quirky all over the place. it's famous for it's staircases throughout town, and the tiny little abodes that are crammed on the mountain sides, much like san francisco, and yard sculptures, and mosaics up the walls that support the rocky hills from land sliding, and the graffiti (that is widely welcomed) all around the water trenches...hills, hills and more hills...nestled in the crevices of a very steep cluster of mountains...you wouldn't know it's here otherwise.

arizona is all blm land (bureau of land management), which basically means public land...which is good and fun and convenient for travelers...except that the general public abuses it and it's actually more difficult to find a tent site then you'd expect due to all the piles and piles a piles of broken glass everywhere...yeah, people...pack it in, pack it out...thanks..
